A brief history of Smartphones:

The first smart phone model was Simon of IBM. This phone was launched in 1992. This smart phone used to fave some added functionality from an ordinary cellphone like an address book, calender, note pad, email facility, FAX, games, calculator, and world clock. Touch screen was provided instead of buttons to dial numbers. An on screen keyboard was also there in the phone to type in text messages.

The modern smartphone model was later released by Nokia in 1996. At that time Nokia 9000 was one of the most popular smartphones models available in the market. An improved version of this model was the Nokia 9210. Other popular smartphones models were Ericsson R380. Nokia 7650 and is another popular smartphones model.
